StartUp Health Broadcasts Annual Festival with Wirecast

StartUp Health is organizing, supporting and investing in a global army of Health Transformers to improve the health and wellbeing of everyone in the world. Just seven years into a 25-year mission, StartUp Health already has the world’s largest portfolio of digital health companies spanning over a dozen countries.

Founded in 2011, by Steven Krein and Unity Stoakes, StartUp Health is chaired by former Time Warner CEO, Jerry Levin and has dozens of strategic partners and investors include AARP, Bayer, California Health Care Foundation, Kaiser Permanente Ventures, and Mark Cuban.

The Challenge

One of StartUp Health’s biggest initiatives is their yearly event. The StartUp Health Festival, now in its sixth year, is an invite-only, two-day experience alongside the annual JP Morgan Healthcare Conference. The Festival has become StartUp Health’s largest and most prestigious event of the year bringing together 2,000 of the most inspiring health entrepreneurs, innovators, and investors to focus on solving the world’s biggest health challenges.

A key challenge faced by StartUp Health was reaching their global audience of Health Transformers and partners during this annual StartUp Health Festival. They needed a way to live stream the festival main stage to celebrate the accomplishments of their members and partners with a global audience.

This year, the festival will take place Monday, January 8th and 9th in San Francisco, California.

The Solution

StartUp Health chose Wirecast to live stream their event, because it proved to be a reliable and trustworthy live streaming software in the past for them. Another important deciding factor for choosing Wirecast was the fact that it is CDN agnostic, meaning it lets them deliver an equal and open streaming experience to their viewers, whatever platform they may be watching it on.

They will be using Wirecast Pro installed on an Apple MacBook Pro 2017, which will be located in the mezzanine level of the venue, next to the AV, which they call the “video village”.

They will have three Panasonic HE-130 cameras. These will be placed strategically in the general session area. Two will be in front of house, and one will be used as a reverse view to stream audience reactions.

The cameras will be brought into Wirecast using a Blackmagic Capture Card via HD-SDI. Audio will be piped directly into Wirecast from the venue’s main audio feed.

The stream will last the entirety of the festival, and will be broadcast live to the StartUp Health’s Facebook and YouTube accounts. Streaming the festival will help StartUp Health celebrate accomplishments with their global audience.

See StartUp Health’s stream for yourself, by tuning into their live broadcast Monday, January 8th 9 am to 4:30 pm PST, and Tuesday, January 9th 7:45 am to 5:15 pm PST.
